Saliscendi included in the ADI Design Index
News from Stilnovo: The pendant luminaire Saliscendi has been included in the ADI Design Index 2022. Although the Saliscendi luminaire was designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for the Milan Chamber of Commerce as early as 1957, it will not be ready for series production until 2021 – a whole 64 years later.
New mass – new technology
The Saliscendi pendant luminaire, redesigned with LED technology and reduced dimensions, is launched on the market in 2021 for the first time in its history, making it accessible to everyone. An expression of Stilnovo’s design and technological manufacturing maxim, Saliscendi quickly becomes the flagship of the Italian lighting manufacturer’s new direction.
The basis for the development of the contemporary Saliscendi pendant lamp are the two prototypes installed in the Sala della Giunta in Milan and the archive material provided by the heirs of Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni – more than sixty years after the creation of the two prototypes.
Direct and indirect light
But Saliscendi is an impressive masterpiece not only from a historical but also from a technical point of view. On the one hand, the finished, ceiling-mounted pendant light can be individually adjusted in height. On the other hand, the pendant luminaire offers a double light emission, upwards and downwards. Both elements, which move in opposite directions in this way, diffuse more direct or indirect light depending on the distance
The Design Award
Now the Saliscendi pendant luminaire has been included in the ADI Design Index and is thus shortlisted as a candidate for the ADI Compasso d’Oro 2024, the most prestigious award for the production and design quality of goods, services, processes and systems in Italy. The ADI Design Index is the annual publication of the ADI, the authoritative association for industrial design, which lists the best Italian design selected by the Osservatorio Permanente del Design ADI.
The Saliscendi pendant luminaire, licensed re-edition of the 1957 original, is available from Stilnovo partner TAGWERC in all versions.
