GHERPE

by Superstudio, 1968

The Gherpe table and floor lamp was designed in 1967 as one of the first designs by the Italian design collective Superstudio. Superstudio is considered to be one of the most important representatives of the so-called Radical Design, a design approach that was new at that time and was against the traditional and towards an object-free avant-garde. In the TAGWERC Design STORE you purchase the Gherpe as a licensed re-edition of the original design from 1967 with a guarantee of authenticity. Gherpe is made by hand in Italy.

Gherpe Table lamp

The table and floor lamp Gherpe, due to its special shape like that of a shell that we know as sea creatures, does not belong to the known and common types of lighting fixtures. And the use of an industrial material such as methacrylate is also rather avant-garde for luminaires, in fact almost new in the year the lamp was created. It is precisely this unconventional combination that characterizes Gherpe and Superstudio around the architects Peter Frassinelli, Alessandro and Roberto Magris, Adolfo Natalini, Alessandro Poli and Christiano Torald di Francia and makes the light object an artifact in design history. As such, Gherpe is exhibited in design museums around the world. The fanned light object is flexible and can be brought into a variety of different positions, in this way Gherpe always looks new.

The table and floor lamp Gherpe is available in two different variations: fluorescent red and opal white. At a height of 38 centimeters and a width of 31 centimeters, Gherpe measures a depth of 53 centimeters. An LED bulb with a maximum of 10 watts lights up Gherpe. As an object on a marble plinth, a side table, placed directly on a concrete floor, in the hallway, living room, dressing room or as atmospheric light in the bedroom – Gherpe can be playfully staged and can change the emotional perception of a space.

The Gherpe lamp is a unique design object that perfectly combines form and function. A must-have for all design lovers and an investment that can otherwise only be admired in design museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Center Pompidou in Paris or the Museè des Beaux Arts in Montreal. This makes Gherpe an emotional companion and not a functional piece of furniture, just the perfect choice for art connoisseurs and lovers of exclusive furnishings.
