Formakami JH5
The Formakami JH5 pendant lamp provides indirect, all-round light and can be equipped with two E27 bulbs with a maximum of 60 watts each. In combination with the Formakami JH18 table lamp and Formakami JH3 and Formakami JH4 pendant luminaires, islands of light can be installed in almost every room situation – from a small studio to a spacious loft ambience.
As a light source in the hallway, at a reception counter in the foyer, above a coffee table in the living room, in the study and, of course, as a special design element in a walk-in wardrobe or as a bedside lamp in bedrooms – thanks to its reduced, edgeless and light appearance, the Formakami JH5 pendant lamp can be used almost anywhere. In combination with a dimmer switch the light intensity of the Formakami JH5 paper lamp can be adjusted to the desired mood.

Paper lamps have a long tradition in Asian culture. Different shapes and colours are attributed different meanings with individual symbolic power and are used in the Far East depending on the occasion. The so-called ‘Japan ball’, a white paper ball shade, started its triumphal procession through the homes of the world in the 1970s and should be familiar to everyone. Comparable to the white ‘Monobloc’ plastic chair, which was sold millions of times. With Hayon, the shooting star of the design scene, it’s different. Breaking away from cultural constraints to reinvent something old but new, Hayon’s style hits the nail on the head.
With a height of 67 centimeters and a diameter of 70 centimeters, the Formakami JH54 pendant lamp weighs 1.50 kilogram. This makes the lightweight extremely easy to handle. A black cable supplies the Formakami JH5 with power. In the style of traditional Japanese lanterns, the lampshade of the Formakami JH5 suspension lamp is made of natural and renewable materials.
„Hayon has captured the essence of this iconic lantern by combining craftsmanship and ancient materials such as rice paper in a new lamp designed for a modern ambience,” knows Martin Kornbek Hansen, Brand Director of &tradition. And adds: „The effect is a table lamp that gives light – and appears bright.“
„Light has the ability to dispel darkness and bring hope,” says Hayon. „With the Paper Lanterns, I kept the colour white to make the appearance of the lamps themselves light. I also wanted to have even more light exude from them. More illumination. So I cut the bottom shape in half, leaving it open. With a secret desire to illuminate people’s lives – literally and symbolically.“
„For me, the beauty of these lanterns lies in their delicacy,” ends Hansen. „To see the airy, bulbous shapes in white rice paper accentuated with black stained oak is pure poetry.“
