PANTON TRAY SMALL

by Verner Panton, 1988

Panton Tray by Georg Jensen in size small is made of stainless steel according to a design by the designer Verner Panton. Panton Tray, Panton Crash Tray or just Crash Tray fulfills more the function of a tray than that of a tablet. The size small Panton Tray is also available in the size medium and a particularly noble design in silver. To illustrate the design language he invented for Panto Tray, designer Verner Panton is said to have taken a leaf from producer Georg Jensen, crumpling it up and pulling it apart again. Voilà c’est Panton Tray!

Panton Tray Small

The antifunctionalist movement in 1980s design is reflected in Panton Tray as well as in a number of other design classics: from Ron Arad’s’ Bad Tempered Chair’ to Philippe Starck’s ‘Juicy Salif’ lemon squeezer for the Italian cult label Alessi. “It does not matter what things look like, but what emotions they trigger,” Starck is quoted in an article in the Rheinische Post. For ‘Juicy Salif’, it was never about functionality, it was just about the spectacle.

In contrast to that, Panton Tray small proves to be very practical and versatile in everyday use. Not only for foods such as fruits, vegetables, pastries, nuts and other nibbles, Panton Tray offers a refreshing alternative to traditional bowls made of glass, metal or plastic. Also for keys, all sorts of odds and ends out of a jacket pocket like change and cards, Panton Tray is the ideal collecting station.

Panton Tray by Georg Jensen in size small is a decorative and food- safe bowl made of shiny stainless steel. Despite its robustness, the special design makes the small bowl look filigree and light, because Panton Tray is reminiscent of a crumpled sheet of paper. Thus, Panton Tray combines avoidable contrasts, the look of lightweight paper with the robustness of solid stainless steel. Panton Tray goes back to a design by Verner Panton in 1988. Design interior specialist TAGWERC offers Panton Tray as a select retailer in two sizes. On special request Panton Tray medium can be made in addition to stainless steel in exclusive silver.

As typical for Verner Panton, Panton Tray plays with the reflection of light and shadow and the reflection of other design elements in the room. Then as now, Panton Tray is manufactured by Georg Jensen in both, stainless steel and silver. Thus, the residential object is suitable either for indoor and outdoor use and undoubtedly belongs to the genre ‘decorative art of the 20th century’. A must-have for every design-oriented household and available in original versions by the design interior specialist TAGWERC.
