by Verner Panton, 1971

Panton Wire Extended white by Montana is a free-standing shelf, which dates back to a design draft by designer Verner Panton from 1971. The former name of the Panton Wire was called Wire Shelf and is derived from the construction of the shelf: string-like pulled-out metal wire forms a cube-like or rectangle-like rack. Panton Wire Extended white is available in the TAGWERC Design STORE in two different depths (18.8 and 34.8 centimeters).

In addition, Panton Wire Extended white can be mounted on the wall using Montana‘s original mounting material and then used as a wall shelf. In this way, the Panton Wire Extended rack is transformed, for example, into an attractive and well-ventilated floor storage for keys, mobile phone, bag, letters, hats and gloves. In walk-in wardrobes Panton Wire Extended white can accommodate bags, shoes, shawls and scarves. In the bathroom, the furnishing experts from TAGWERC Design STORE recommend Panton Wire Extended in white from Montana as a fancy storage for towels.

As a wall shelf Panton Wire Extended white should be loaded with a maximum of 10 kilograms. By using a Panton Wire Suspended Shelf, a rack element to hang up between two Panton Wire cubes or rectangles, two Panton Wire modules can be connected to a lowboard. When used as a floor shelf, the manufacturer Montana indicates the maximum load of 40 kilograms. If several Panton Wire Extended elements form a room divider, these should definitely be secured to the ceiling, wall and floor.

Modular furniture that seems to adapt to every situation in life has always been a topic in furniture design, to which Verner Panton also devoted himself. The Wire Shelf, on which the Panton Wire Extended white is based on, was part of the Panton Pantonova furniture family. Formed from individual blocks of 70.1 centimeters side length, it can still be used flexible and versatile in spite of adapted dimensions. Hi-Fi cabinet, table, bookshelf or room divider – the ideas are unlimited.

5 millimeter thick wire ropes arranged parallel to each other are bent into a rectangle, which is open to the front and the back. Montana, the current manufacturer, offers these individual elements under the name Panton Wire Extended. Clips can be used to connect the individual elements. Shelves and cover plates made of glass, MDF or marble and fittings for wall mounting multiply the possible uses of the wire shelf. The same design style for lighting is available with Wire Table Lamp and Wire Floor Lamp.
